That day, I wasn't particularly out looking for clothes.

I had lunch with an old friend near Shinjuku Gyoen. We met in our twenties, and now we're at the age where conversations naturally drift toward "how should we live the later part of life." I told her about a book that had just come out: A Way of Spending Money That Lets You Say It Was a Good Life (written in Japanese).

あの日は、服を探しに行ったわけではなかった。

長年の付き合いになる友人と新宿御苑の近くでランチをした。20代で出会った私たちも、そろそろ「人生の後半をどう生きるか」について語り合う年齢になり、とある本の話になった。『いい人生だったと思えるお金の使い方。』という本だ。

"Fashion is a total art form — made of countless variables." That's what I wrote in Vol. I.

So. What exactly are these variables?

Let me try to list the elements that make up what we wear.

• Climate

• Body type and facial features

• Lifestyle

• Social role

• Aesthetic sensibility

These are the ones that come to mind.

「ファッションは、変数だらけの総合芸術」だと思う、と書いた。では、その「変数」とは、なんだろう。

ファッションを構成する要素を、あらためて書き出してみる。

• 気候

• 自分の体型や顔立ち

• ライフスタイル

• 社会的な役割

• 美意識

などが思い浮かぶ。

30 June 2026. Full Moon. Today, Japan faced Brazil at the FIFA World Cup. The wall was high — but Japan stood their ground, and that alone belongs to history.

There is no sport I find more beautiful, more deeply loveable, than football.

Highly trained men, bound by the seemingly absurd rule that only their feet may touch the ball, chase a single sphere across the pitch in every direction imaginable. The thrill of a defensive line breaking in an instant. The tension of knowing time is finite. The drama that emerges from both. And yet — a match can go the full ninety minutes without the net ever moving. What magnificent inefficiency.

2026年6月11日。北中米W杯が開幕。

サッカーほど美しく、愛おしいスポーツはない、と私は思っている。

鍛え抜かれた男たちが、脚しか使えないというクレイジーなルールの下、たったひとつのボールを追いかけてピッチを縦横無尽に走り回る。一瞬で攻守が切り替わるスリル、決まった時間枠の中で戦う緊張感、そこから生まれるドラマ。長時間かけて、ゴールネットが揺れる瞬間が一度も訪れないことだってある。なんという非効率さだろうか。

In Japan, we live with four distinct seasons — each one carrying its own beauty. We sometimes use these seasons as a metaphor for life.

Mine is entering autumn.

夏の訪れを告げる、クラシックなキャッチコピー。あの貼り紙を見ると、「ああ、夏が来たんだな」と思う。四季のある日本という国に暮らす私たちは、季節の移り変わりとともに、人生を重ねていく。

私の人生は「秋」に差し掛かろうとしている。
